Welcome to Bootstrap'd

I’d like to formally welcome everyone to my blog, Bootstrap’d.  I’ve resisted joining the persona blogging game for a while, but found that so much of what I’d like to say on the Netizen Newsfeed just doesn’t belong on a ‘corporate’ blog.

First things first, I’d like to introduce myself, if ever so briefly.  My name is David Evans, and I’m transplanted New Yorker since 1995 from the Washington, DC area.  I attended the Columbia University School of Engineering and majored in Operations Research with a minor in Computer Science - now, I am heavily involved as an alumnus with the Columbia University Club of NY.  I’m a sports fanatic, but my true love is baseball.  I won’t (at the moment), discuss my team affiliations, for fear of having peanuts or beer thrown at me.  But I promise, there will be discussion of that topic here.  If it’s not sports, its music, or running - two other things that occupy much of my time and love.

My personal interests definitely overlap with my career background.  At heart, I’m a technology enthusiast and lover, having worked at various software, consulting, and internet companies.  Currently, I’m a co-founder of Civil Engines Research, the parent company of Civil Netizen.  We’re passionately slaving away at putting out innovative software.  We’ve been building this business, “one dollar at a time”, the old-school way - by self-funding everything we do.  It’s a lost art called “bootstrapping” - and I intend to focus on that, and related topics here.  In a world of thousands and thousands of startups, I hope to share some wisdom with those who feel institutional investment isn’t right for them, at least for now.

So welcome to Bootstrap’d…I hope you find your time here fun, educational, and hey, maybe even a little unconventional.

What up! I expect a lot of "Damn"'s, "damies", and "ablums" throughout the life of this weblog. As they say in certain industries that shall remain nameless, Welcome Aboard!
