Bring Some Humanity to Your Site with Voki

Today, Charlie from Oddcast (the creators of Monk-E-mail and Sitepal) announced the launch of their new service, Voki.  Voki is a service that allows you to build a custom avatar that “enables users to express themselves on the web in their own voice using a talking character.”  Think of it like a Nintendo Mii character that you can publish to your website, blog, social network profile, cell phone, IM platform, and more.  With the ability to add your voice by phone, microphone, or by uploading it, it can bring a piece of you to life anywhere on the web.

The great sensei must have been thinking about the internet when he said those famous words.  If basic podcasting is like standing, then Waxxi’s interactive podcasts are like flying… 

Earlier, I wrote about today’s Waxxi Interactive Podcast, with Jimmy Wales.  I just logged off the chat and have to admit, I’m very impressed.  For about 45 minutes, a group of about 200 ‘castmembers’ were treated to a personal chat with Jimmy.  Questions ranged from the differences between Wikipedia and Wikia to Jimmy’s take on search algorithm transparency, politics, Google, and wiki vandalization.

Tomorrow at 1:30 pm, I’ll be joining hundreds of other folks around the world for my first Waxxi Interactive Podcast.  In case you haven’t heard about Waxxi, waxxi.jpgthey are a true innovator in not only the podcasting space, but the social networking space.  They combine the best of both worlds by creating multi-dimensional, interactive podcasts, where the entire audience can not only listen, but interact and ask questions to the special guest.
