A Tale of Two Cities, and Three Teams
It’s not secret that my baseball loyalties lie with the team 200 miles north of my current residence here in NYC. While I passionately root for them and follow their every move, I actually also spend quite a bit of time watching two other teams. One is obvious, the NY Yankees - you can’t avoid them living in NY, and after all, it’s good to keep an eye on the competition. The other team I follow is the Mets.
A Royal Welcome for Dice-K
Well, after months of insanity, Daisuke Matsuzaka made his first regular season start for the Boston Red Sox. The hype for this game was just ridiculous,
as both the American and Japanese media took hold of it and ran and ran and ran. Cameras have surrounded “Dice-K” (that’s how we Americans spell and pronounce his name) every moment since he’s arrived here. He’s been heralded as the next great MLB pitcher, who’s wicked hahd stuff would make Pedro look like, well, Hideki Irabu :). Needless to say, all eyes would be on Matsuzaka today, as he faced the Kansas City Royals.
Eat Drink and Be Merry (While Watching Your Favorite Teams)
I recently discovered a NY-based internet startup that happens to solve a big problem of mine. While I’m devoted to my beloved city, I am ANYTHING but devoted to it’s local sports teams (besides the CU Lions, and on occasion the Mets). In fact, I root for teams that NYers generally hate. So finding a local sports bar where I can enjoy a game in peace with my fellow fans can be a challenge.
