Concert Going Gripe
I’m posting this gripe on behalf of my friend who attended the previously mentioned Decemberists concert with me. Have you ever attended a concert where the entire crowd is sitting, and for some unknown reason, the person in front of you decides to stand up - FOR THE WHOLE SHOW? Sure, it’s their right to enjoy the show standing, but it’s also incredibly annoying. Well, my friend had to deal with that problem. Even worse though, the girl standing in front of him also felt the need to dance the entire time. Leaning to view around a person is hard enough…moving your head back and forth in an opposing pattern to their non-rythmic gyrating is not a fun way to view a show.
They Were Meant for the Stage
Last Tuesday I trekked over to Jersey City for a Decemberists concert, the first in their “Twilight in the Fearful Forest” tour, and my fourth concert of theirs in the past 2 years. For those who have never seem them (or heard their music for that matter), I highly recommend you take a look. I would even say that they are perhaps the best and most unique band out there today. Yes, that’s both a highly subjective statement, and one that many would probably argue against. With bands like “Arcade Fire”, “Gnarls Barkley”, or “The Shins” out there garnering lots of attention and praise, what makes “The Decemberists” any better?
Eat Drink and Be Merry (While Watching Your Favorite Teams)
I recently discovered a NY-based internet startup that happens to solve a big problem of mine. While I’m devoted to my beloved city, I am ANYTHING but devoted to it’s local sports teams (besides the CU Lions, and on occasion the Mets). In fact, I root for teams that NYers generally hate. So finding a local sports bar where I can enjoy a game in peace with my fellow fans can be a challenge.
Electric Avenue
There’s something in the air here on the streets on New York City. It’s a certain buzz, or electricity that can be felt. Anyone who’s been in and around the blogosphere in the past few weeks has to feel it. The NY tech community is on the verge of entering a renaissance period highlighted by the emergence of not only a slew of great companies, but more importantly, a new mindset and philosophy about its place NOT just in the tech world, but in the business world at large. The community is organizing itself rapidly, and thought leaders are taking steps to foster the collaboration and innovation necessary to elevate this relatively underrepresented ‘scene’ into a legitimate player in the NY business world.
A Blistery March NY Tech Meetup
So I’ve decided to move my monthly recaps of the NY Tech Meetup from the Netizen Newsfeed to here here on my new personal blog – hopefully I’ll write about these, as well as all the many other cool NYC events taking place here at Bootstrap’d from now on. The NY Tech scene is abuzz right now, and I hope to capture the essence of it here at Bootstrap’d. So, on with the post…
Both the mood and the weather were cold here in NY last night as we once again descended upon Cooper Union for the monthly NY Tech Meetup. It was a big week for the group, as we surpassed 3000 members – further proof of the strength of the New York tech community. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Scott offered to give away a spectacular jumbo remote from Bed Bath & Beyond to the best presentation.
